But with a multitude of metrics and tools, understanding the truth\nbehind the quality of user experience that is delivered becomes challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Web Vitals is a new initiative by the search\ngiant to help sites understand the core metrics that are essential to\ndelivering a great user experience on the web.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-large is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The core Web Vitals is being introduced in conjunction with the existing user experience signals. This new ranking signal is still in its early stages of development and is expected to be released later next year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Core Web Vitals<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Core web vitals are based on three aspects of\nuser experience i.e loading speed, responsiveness, and visual stability. These\nare measured using three metrics, such as<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Largest Contentful Paint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First Input Delay<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cumulative Layout Shift  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.verbat.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/google-core-web-vitals-1-1024x534.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2437\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cumulative Layout Shift<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) is an important\nmetric that measures layout stability i.e it helps quantify how often users\nexperience shifts in the content on a page.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A low CLS is often caused by images without\ndimensions, ads, embeds, or iFrames without dimensions dynamically injected\ncontent and web fonts that might cause an instant of unstyled content.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Largest Contentful Paint<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Largest Contentful Paint measures the loading\nperformance of the page specifically the point in the page load timeline when\nthe main content of the page has loaded.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Issues like slow server response times,\nunoptimized database queries, API responses that are just taking a while to\nresolve, render-blocking JavaScript and CSS, slow resource times, unoptimized\nimages, client rendering, and a wide variety of other reasons can cause low\nLCP.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can be measured using Field tools like\nChrome User Experience Report PageSpeed Insights, Search Console (Core Web\nVitals report), and Lab tools like Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse, WebPageTest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First Input Delay<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First Input Delay which measures interactivity\nquantify how users feel when trying to interact with unresponsive pages. First\nimpressions are gold when it comes to experiences on the web.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FID essentially measures the kind of\nimpression that your website is likely making on your users in terms of\ninteractivity and responsiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This might be caused due to long tasks on the main thread,  heavy JavaScript execution, Large JavaScript bundles, render-blocking scripts, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Measuring Core Web Vitals<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chrome User Experience Report Dashboard\ncommonly called the CrUX is a great solution to measure the Core Web Vitals\nmetrics, including Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID), and\nCumulative Layout Shift (CLS), as well as other diagnostic metrics like Time to\nFirst Byte (TTFB) and First Contentful Paint (FCP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Core Web Vitals metrics categorize\nperformance as either &#8220;good&#8221;, &#8220;needs improvement&#8221;, or\n&#8220;poor&#8221;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, to measure the overall\nperformance of a page or site, Google uses the 75th percentile value of all\npage views to that page or site. This means that if at least 75 percent of the\npage views to a site comes under the \u201cgood\u201d threshold, the site is classified\nas good under that particular metric.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the contrary, if at least 25 percent of the\npage views come under the \u2018poor\u2019 threshold, the site comes under the poor\nperformance category.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wrapping Up <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Web Vitals and Core Web Vitals is one of the best available measures to accurately measure the quality of user experience.
