We have already discussed Apache Hadoop and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verbat.com\/blog\/hadoop-ecosystem-beginners-overview\/\"><strong>Hadoop ecosystem<\/strong><\/a> in detail in a previous blog. Hadoop is used by data scientists for offline or batch processing. The framework can be scaled up by adding nodes in the cluster.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enterprises who are already into Big Data\nanalytics and have used Hadoop face some significant challenges like<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Changing Data Characteristics:&nbsp;<\/strong>Every two or three years the nature and volume of data are growing exponentially. So, data management becomes difficult.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cost and Performance:&nbsp;<\/strong>Although the per-unit price of Big Data is low, the sheer scale of it makes it expensive. Companies gaining strategic insights from their data find it difficult to strike the right balance between price and performance. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fragmented Architecture:&nbsp;<\/strong>Enterprises have made significant investments in the on-premise system. With everything moving to the cloud they find it difficult to keep the current systems up and running and with minimal investments to reach the cloud. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where Azure HDInsight comes into the picture. Azure HDInsight by Microsoft is a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.verbat.com\/technologies\/cloud-computing\">cloud-based service<\/a><\/strong> for processing and analysing large volumes of streaming and historical data for enterprises.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HDInsight offers Spark, Hadoop, Spark, Hive,\nLLAP, Kafka, Storm, R, and many more open-source frameworks to build big data\napplications. Its features include simplified data extraction, data\ntransformation, data loading, and data warehousing, machine learning, and IoT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important Aspects of HDInsight<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Uses Hortonworks Data\nPlatform<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Azure HDInsight is based on the\nHortonworks Data Platform (HDP). Horton Data Platform is the complete set of\nthe most important components of the Hadoop ecosystem. HDInsight uses the HDP\nplatform as it is, but the only difference is that the storage layer used is\nthe Azure Data Lake or other Azure storage systems like Blob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The HDP with its tools and features helps\nenterprises gain valuable insights by analysing both structured and\nunstructured data. It is also the reason behind HDInsight\u2019s robust data\nprocessing and analytics services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cluster Creation and\nScaling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often developers must put in extra effort\nand time to create clusters and scale existing clusters depending on the data\nvolume. HDInsight makes it possible for developers to scale workloads\nvertically. This can bring down costs by creating clusters only when required\nand paying only for the resources being used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another major feature of HDInsight is that\nthe HDInsight clusters are managed by Microsoft with 99.9 percent service legal\nagreement (SLA). Hence, a large amount of data can be processed without\nfocusing on cluster management.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, there is full monitoring support with\nMicrosoft operations management suite i.e. HDInsight with the Azure log\nanalytics can display all the alerts and events from the HDInsight cluster on a\nsingle dashboard along with other Azure services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Enterprise Level Security\nand Compliance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With HDInsight prime focus is given on\nsecurity and it meets government compliance standards like GDPR. It can handle\nhistorical data (data that\u2019s already been collected and stored) or streaming\ndata (real-time data streamed from the source).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few of these scenarios include<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Extract, Transform, and\nLoad (ETL), or Batch Processing&nbsp;<\/strong>as it is commonly called\nis a process where structured and unstructured data is extracted from a wide\nvariety of sources. It is then converted into a structured format and transferred\ninto a data store. The stored data can later be used for data science or data\nwarehousing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Data Warehousing and Data\nScience<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enterprises sit on a vast amount of data (which can be many petabytes or terabytes). HDInsight can be used to carry out interactive queries from these structured or unstructured data in any format.
